The Dig and Dream Garden Club has been keeping busy during this trying time by holding both virtual and in-person meetings and doing our workdays in shifts - following proper social distancing guidelines of course!

Although not all members have joined all of our virtual meetings, we have had a quorum at all but one meeting since March 2020! We also have virtual educational programs to include one on planting for humminbirds and another on gardening for butterflies with a virtual garden tour, which was a lot of fun.

We also celebrated our cherished member, Dorothy Muir’s, 100th Birthday this past year with a fun drive by parade!

We have also expanded our website and added the ability for our member to pay their membership dues online.

We have been working hard to find creative ways to keep our members engaged. We look forward to learning tips from the other clubs on how you’ve been doing this as well!

The photos were taken at a work day at the Smoky Hill Library National Butterfly Garden that we designed, put in and maintain. We are using the tools given to us by Ames through their grant progran this year!

This is our new blog on our new website. We want to welcome you to our Dig and Dream Garden Club website. We are a local garden club in Centennial, Colorado. We are a member of the Colorado Federation of Garden Clubs (CFCG) and the National Garden Clubs (NGC). We have on average between 40-50 members. Our members include both men and women and we have a wide range of ages. We are also planning a junior club for younger members!

We are focused on Gardening Education and Community Service. We have several projects going each year, to include our legacy projects: Maintaining the Ronald McDonald House Gardens and porch planters; the Pickens Technical College Rose Garden; the gardens at Ft. Logan Cemetery; and the Smoky Hill Library Butterfly Garden.

We meet once a month, at noon on the 3rd Monday of the month, at the Smoky Hill Library. We welcome you to come check us out. It is free to attend as a guest your first time. Then you can decide if you'd like to join our merry band of Gardeners.

At this time of year it's hard to think of gardening. But before you know it Spring will be here! Now's the time to start planning. Are you thinking of adding a new garden? Or perhaps just trying a new plant or two? Winter is a good time for planning your upcoming gardening activities. It's also a good time to reflect. What worked well this past year? What did not? What do you want to change? All good things to think about in the winter. Then, before you know it the time for starting your seeds has come!

But what about community activities? Winter is also a good time to start your planning for community projects related to gardening. For example, the picture here is showing us giving a tour of a new butterfly garden we created a couple of years ago to the community. That took a lot of preparation. The docents trained and practiced over the winter so they were ready to go once spring came. And of course, with our projects there is always ongoing maintence to think about. Winter is a good time to go over those activities and think about how you could make them more efficient and effective. And of course there are always new projects to plan! We look forward to hearing what you have planned for your gardening activities!
